Zara's Night Out

  We were shopping yesterday and found a local dog day they were holding at night time. We decided.... let's see how Zara does. It would be the 1st BIG social thing she's EVER been to. It would be a BIG step indeed.  She certainly wasn't sure at first. She stopped....backed up....but then..... One dog....2 dog....sniff after sniff ... One kid, one adult ... 4 pets later.... She started walking up to dogs AND kids and big hoomans for pets!!  It helped that all the dogs were very well socialized and friendly. And all the hoomans were very gentle. But there was a dog and hoomans every direction she turned, everywhere we walked.  We are so proud of her!!! She did amazing and has REALLY come out of her shell!

Zara and the leash

  So when I discovered Zara doesn't walk well on a leash, we just leashed up and took small mini walks around the yard. Then 3 weeks ago, we took one big walk!! She did great!! She needed some encouragement along the roads with cars, but she just kept going. She passed out when we got home and that was all she wrote. Literally til bed time. Haha.

Zara's real personality

  She's shy, yes. When you first meet her, it'll take some time to adjust.  But oh boy, she's darling when she finds out your hers to love forever.  She's starting to walk up to my daughter and I and waking us up in the morning. Giving morning kisses.  It's summer and she would always lay on the couch and bed, but she will now get warm and jump on the floors to cool off. She then looks like a little loaf.  She's great to groom. We've had to trim her face few times already to show those pretty eyes.  She barely barks, truly a great apartment dog or someone who wants a quiet chill pup.

Waggy tail

  She definitely loves when it's sunny and even hot. Odd considering she's a black dog and heats up, but she loves basking. She loves when the lawn is freshly mowed and not tickling her belly or taller than she is. It's her preference for potting conditions. 😂 She's starting to walk up in bed to ask for pets. She has really gotten down the jump down from bed "I need to go potty". When we're all sitting in the living room she'll start pacing by the door when she wants to go.  Otherwise she's completely content in a blanket, or pillow on the couch or bed.

Asking for attention

She has her slow walk and sniffing and then chill on the couch.  Then other times she will chase around the cat and they'll play.  When I call her to see if she should be chewing up some stuff, she'll stop, then walk up and ask for pets.  She's got that wagging tail and look on her face. How can you deny her?!

Zara loves pets

 She is so gentle. She's still learning how to trust a bit. She will follow me everywhere I go, but pause before I get too close. But much improvement from her running that first week we got her. 🤣 That tail wag!
